Beautiful Idiot takes you on a ride through the mindset and motivations of those who feel driven to pursue greatness, how it can feel to fall short, and the consequences of reaching a lofty goal when the struggle to get there has defined you for so long. Description: BIKES, PIZZA, BEER, LIVE MUSIC, what could be better! Come out and rub elbows with Vernon’s biking community at this fun-filled event! Pick your favorite era, and get into it. Costumes encouraged. The ticket price includes pizza, first beer, live music, and a donation to the club. Tickets for this event are limited to 65, so get your tickets early!

saturday, May 4: XC RACE


tIME: 10:00 AM

theme: “good old-fashioned bike race”

Description: The Old Fashioned Mountain Bike Race- A cross country bike race for all ages. Chase your friend around laps of our 3.8 km course on any bike you want. Old school mountain bike racing, with a ‘Tight and Bright’ costume contest, retro mountain bike ‘show and shine’, and on course draw prizes in the mix.

SATURDAY, MAY 4: RAIL TRAIL art festival

location: starting from the rail trail cafe, 13904 Kalamalka Rd, Coldstream

TIME: 10:00 AM

Cost: By donation, proceeds going towards NOCS, FORT (Friends of the Okanagan Rail Trail), and the Vernon Arts Council.

Description: Come ride your bike along the shores of Kalamalka lake while discovering some of the region’s talented artists.  Live painting, performers, and music. Come see what all the fuss is about with the exquisite pathway. Feel free to come on foot or on bike, just come out and enjoy the beauty of the Okanagan! People are encouraged to bike to the ride; if you need to park, please park either at Polson Park, or at the newly purchased parking lot along Kal Lake Rd, between the Alpine Centre retail complex, and the Kalavida Surfshop.

SUNDAY, May 5: DEMO DAY “festival style”

Location: Ellison Provincial park (BOOTHS IN THE UPPER LOT, Park IN THE lower day lot)

Time: 09:00 am

Description: Our three amazing local bike shops will be collaborating to bring all of their major brands for a bike demo extravaganza! There will be a food truck, and there are rumors about the possibility of a live band. Come spend the day taking in the festive atmosphere and trying out some new bikes. And, for those riders who are unfamiliar with the Ellison Provincial Park trail network, Happy Trails MTB Skills Development will be leading free guided tours throughout the day.

where to stay

Many of the events (e.g., the XC race and Demo Day) are happening in Ellison Provincial Park, which has a lovely and convenient campground. If you are coming from out of town, and are equipped to camp, Ellison Provincial Park Campground is an ideal place to stay.
