When you come back to the parking lot at the end of the ride, we will treat you to a free BBQ at around 12:00 noon. At the BBQ we will go over the results from the weeklong Electronic Enduro and provide awards for fastest times as well as randomized participation awards for completing all of the curated trail segments over the span of the week.
BONUS weeklong EVENT: ELECTRONIC ENDURO
SUNday, april 29th to saturday, may 5th
Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 6 at 12:00 Noon after the Group Ride
We are starting out Vernon Bike Fest 2018 with an ongoing event which will allow everyone to participate on their own time at absolutely any time from this Saturday to next Saturday, and then if they choose to, come to our wrap-up party next Sunday, May 6th (biking at 9:00AM, lunch and awards/prizes at noon). Awards/prizes are generously donated by Sean Bicknell at Pleasant Valley Dental, Pulse Spa, Snap-on Tools, Easthill Phyisotherapy and Acupuncture, and Arise Chiropractic, Massage, and Yoga.
We are calling this event an "Electronic Enduro". It's designed to loosely mimic an Enduro race, and we plan on giving out awards for people who get the fastest completion times for climbing segments, descending segments, and overall. However, our focus in putting this together is participation, and we want to see as many people completing it as possible!
We have made two courses, one of which is an easier green/blue level technical difficulty in Ellison Provincial Park, and the other is a longer and more technical blue/black difficulty course in Kal Park. Anyone who completes one or both of the Electronic Enduro courses will be entered for random prizes at our wrap-up party on Sunday, May 6th (one entry for each course you complete).
In a nutshell, the Electronic Enduro consists of turning on your phone to track you with the Strava app before your ride, then riding the course (all or part of it, however much you want to complete on any given day), then going to the website tour.ac to push a button that pulls your Strava rides into the website. See more detailed instructions below...
Instructions for the Electronic Enduro
Click on the video above for a quick tutorial of the tour.ac website and to understand better how the Electronic Enduro will work. The basic steps are:
1) Sign in to Strava. (Sign up if you haven't before.)
2) Sign in to Tour.AC.
3) Go to the NOCS Electronic Enduro Community Page,
4) Join the community and Follow the tours.
5) Ride the tours from April 29th to May 5th, while tracking with the Strava App on your phone.
6) Upload your ride to Strava, (Automatically happens when you complete the ride on the Strava App)
7) Log in to Tour.AC and Update your data from Strava (in the top right menu).
If you aren't familiar with Strava, and/or you need a slower and more thorough walkthrough getting on the website, check out this more thorough 12-minute video
You will notice that there are two possible Electronic Enduro Courses, we recommend that you "follow" both of the courses and then complete whichever you want or as much as you want. You can complete the segments on Tour.AC in any order you like, but in order to simplify things we have provided you with the suggested Trailforks Routes for Ellison and Kal Park. The Routes will not be marked, so use your Trailforks app to know where you are headed!
Remember to come to the wrap-up party next Sunday, May 6th at noon (or preferably 9:00AM if you can also make it out for the group ride) in order to be eligible for a prize for your participation. We are still looking for more prize sponsors so if you want to contribute something, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
This event would not be possible without the brand-new beta website Tour.AC, built by local doctor Brett Poulin from the Centreville Clinic. Brett has a passion for fitness and the outdoors, and his goal with the Tour.AC website is to get more people active and enjoying the outdoors and exercise as much as possible. You should check out his website generally for curated lists of rides, runs, etc.that are the best that Vernon has to offer, or if you have your own favourites that you want to share, create your own Tour so other people can benefit from your local knowledge.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback on the website, you can email email@example.com.
